Originally founded in 1928, Bank of America is the largest bank in the United States and is also currently the largest issuer of credit, debit, and prepaid cards in the world. In 1958, Bank of America invented the bank credit card by launching the BankAmericard program in Fresno, California. This program later changed its name to the now familiar "Visa" in 1977.
Today, Bank of America is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. It has over 5,700 retail branches and 17,000 ATMs nationwide and employs over 170,000 individuals. The company is publicly traded on the NYSE as BAC and has total assets of approximately $1.5 trillion.
