Contactless credit cards are different from traditional credit cards in that their information is stored on and transmitted via an RFID microchip in addition to the traditional magnetic stripe. Using this technology, these contactless RFID credit cards do not need to be taken out of the wallet and physically swiped against a magnetic reader. Rather, they can remain in the wallet and simply waved over a specially designed RFID reader.
Contactless payment technology is fairly new and so far, it has only been implemented in convenience stores, movie theaters, sports venues, fast food restaurants, and gas stations. But all of these cards can also be used as any traditional card too, since each one still has the traditional magnetic stripe on the reverse side. The cards listed below are all part of the American Express ExpressPay line of contactless credit cards.
